Will TN Government Establish 4 New Study Centres Following Kolathur's Success?

Chennai, July 7 (NationPress) In light of the impressive success of the ‘Muthalvar Padaippagam‘ in Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s Kolathur constituency, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is set to expand this initiative by launching four new common study centres in the central areas of the city.

The ‘Muthalvar Padaippagam’, meaning Chief Minister’s Study Centre, is a public, no-cost common study facility inaugurated in Kolathur, the constituency represented by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. It serves as a peaceful, resource-rich environment tailored for students, job seekers, and researchers who may lack access to such amenities at home.

Typically, these centres offer: Digital library access, reading and reference areas, free Wi-Fi, computer workstations, book lending sections, and air-conditioned study spaces that are open throughout the day.

The initiative has garnered significant success, with hundreds of students utilizing the facility daily. Remarkably, six individuals from the Kolathur Centre successfully passed the TNPSC exam, which has notably enhanced the project’s reputation.

The title “Muthalvar Padaippagam” showcases the Chief Minister’s commitment to advancing education and ensuring accessible study infrastructure throughout Tamil Nadu, particularly in urban locales where space and resources are often scarce.

In response to the Kolathur centre's success, tenders have been issued for new centres to be established in Ayanavaram, Pulianthope, Aminjikarai, and Perambur. Each facility will be outfitted with modern digital libraries, reading rooms, book lending sections, and Wi-Fi-enabled workstations.

These centres will accommodate between 100 to over 300 users, depending on their size and location.

According to CMDA officials, the construction of these buildings is anticipated to be completed within seven months post-tender allotment, with an estimated construction cost ranging from Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 10 crore per centre. The Ayanavaram centre will feature a three-storey building with a total seating capacity of 350 across its floors, along with a parking area for approximately 100 two-wheelers and 30 cars.

In Perambur, the CMDA plans to introduce an innovative open-air study centre paired with a children’s play area, catering especially to new parents and researchers needing a conducive space while managing their children. A landscaped area will enhance the environment.

Aminjikarai will house a compact digital library accommodating six users and a dedicated book lending section, while Pulianthope will receive a fully-equipped facility akin to that in Kolathur.

CMDA Minister P.K. Sekarbabu stated that the Kolathur Centre, which was inaugurated earlier, has set a standard for inclusive educational infrastructure. “At any time of the day, at least 200 students are present at the Kolathur centre. Six students from the facility have already cleared the TNPSC exams,” he mentioned.

“The centres are being extensively utilized by students, job seekers, and even PhD candidates,” he further noted, emphasizing plans to enhance the number of computers and digital resources.

Users like Manonmani. G, a regular visitor at the Kolathur facility, suggested that access to premium study portals and news websites would significantly improve the experience. Officials revealed that this suggestion is currently under consideration.
