Chennai, Aug 3 (NationPress) Numerous political figures in Tamil Nadu have voiced deep apprehension regarding the potential inclusion of migrant workers from Bihar in the state's electoral rolls. This concern arises after the Election Commission of India (ECI) disclosed that 36 lakh voters are missing from Bihar's voter list.
The DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, NTK chief coordinator Seeman, and Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) founder T Velmurugan have vehemently opposed this perceived attempt to influence Tamil Nadu's political dynamics by allowing guest workers to register as voters.
Duraimurugan remarked, "This situation warrants serious attention. These workers have migrated to Tamil Nadu for job opportunities, but granting them voter ID cards here could instigate a significant political transformation in the state's future."
In light of this issue, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan urged Chief Minister M K Stalin to organize an all-party meeting to deliberate on the matter.
"The ECI is currently undertaking a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, where it has been reported that Dalits and minorities are being purged from the rolls. Tamil Nadu is poised for a similar revision, raising concerns that lakhs of guest workers from other states could be added to our voter list," he stated during a press conference in Villupuram.
"This could drastically alter the political landscape within the state. Stalin must act swiftly," he emphasized.
NTK leader Seeman cautioned of vigorous protests should the ECI proceed with a similar revision in Tamil Nadu.
"Incorporating individuals from the North into the state's voter list is a significant injustice. It poses a direct threat to the rights of the Tamil populace. All democratic factions must unite to contest this perilous endeavor by the BJP to gain control in regions where they lack a strong political foothold," Seeman declared in a statement.
T Velmurugan, founder of Tamizhaga Vaazhvumurai Katchi, expressed dismay over reports suggesting that 6.5 lakh migrant workers from Bihar may have already been incorporated into the Tamil Nadu electoral rolls.
"Numerous migrant workers are employed here, and this issue transcends mere numbers - it endangers the culture and traditions of Tamil Nadu. The BJP is evidently attempting to manipulate the electoral framework to establish a government here," he articulated.
The leaders have called for immediate examination of the ongoing revision process and demanded transparency from the Election Commission.
