Chennai, May 22 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan has raised serious allegations against the Tamil Nadu Police, claiming they are attempting to conceal a sexual harassment case involving a DMK functionary in Arakkonam.
He highlighted that the National Commission for Women (NCW) has proactively acknowledged the situation and requested a comprehensive action-taken report.
During a media briefing in Chennai, while inaugurating revamped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Murugan stated that the state police are not demonstrating impartiality.
"In both the Anna University sexual assault case and the Arakkonam case, individuals affiliated with the DMK are implicated. Although there are several people involved in the Arakkonam incident, the police seem to be hindering the investigation," he asserted.
MoS Murugan criticized the DMK administration for what he described as a recurring pattern of protecting party members accused of serious crimes.
He conveyed his concerns regarding the absence of transparency and urgency in addressing sensitive cases related to women's safety.
When asked about the recent Supreme Court stay on the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) investigation into alleged financial misconduct in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), Murugan remarked, "The Centre has no reason to feel affected by the stay. The ED operates independently. Those who have wronged shall eventually face justice."
He further justified the roles of Central agencies, emphasizing that they function within legal boundaries and are free from political interference.
Emphasizing the accomplishments of the Narendra Modi-led Central government, Murugan stated that the Union administration is dedicated to comprehensive national development, especially in infrastructure.
"From the modernization of railway stations to the expansion of airports and the construction of national highways, our objective remains to fortify the backbone of India's economy and connectivity," he declared.
Murugan concluded by reaffirming the Centre's commitment to ensuring justice and transparency in all matters while striving to build a stronger, more inclusive India.
