Today in Parliament: Amidst Government-Opposition Clash, Lok Sabha Discusses Constitution

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha will initiate a two-day discussion on Friday to commemorate 75 years of the Constitution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to respond to the discussions on Saturday.

The Business List of the Lower House states, "Discussion on the illustrious journey of 75 years of the Constitution of India."

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commence the debate on the Constitution.

The BJP and Congress have both issued a three-line whip for their members to attend the House on December 13-14.

The discussions will kick off immediately following the Question Hour, which is also part of the House agenda. According to the Lok Sabha schedule, seven ministers will present various papers related to their departments, and multiple committees will submit their reports.

Both parties held strategic meetings on Thursday.

Reports indicate that PM Modi conducted a strategic meeting attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and BJP chief J.P. Nadda. The Home Minister also convened a meeting with senior BJP ministers.

The opposition Congress gathered at their party headquarters. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with other senior leaders such as K.C. Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, participated in the meeting.

The Winter Session of Parliament, which commenced on November 25, is anticipated to conclude on December 20. So far, the session has experienced disruptions over various matters, including Congress' alleged connections with Soros. The debate on the Constitution has emerged as a primary demand from the opposition during this session.

The focus of the debate is expected to center on the importance and development of the Constitution since its adoption on November 26, 1949. Following the formal adoption of the Constitution by the Indian Constituent Assembly, which took effect on January 26, 1950, India was established as a sovereign, democratic republic.

In 2015, the Government of India declared November 26 as Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas). Since that time, the nation has annually celebrated the adoption of the Constitution on this day.
