Gadag, Feb 5 (NationPress) Three women farmers tragically lost their lives at the scene, while over 10 others sustained injuries in a serious road accident involving a passenger vehicle and a canter near Jigloor Cross in Karnataka's Gadag district on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Annapurna (56), Sangeetha Hosamani (48), and Mariyambu Hunagund (55), all hailing from Shivajipete in Gajendragad. They were en route to Rona for groundnut harvesting.

According to the police, the incident occurred when daily wage laborers from Shivaji Nagar in Gajendragad were traveling to Rona for work in the passenger vehicle.

A lorry is said to have collided with the passenger vehicle, resulting in this fatal accident. The force of the collision left the passenger vehicle extensively damaged.

More than 10 individuals suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital for medical attention.

Hospital sources indicated that some injured individuals are in serious condition, raising concerns that the death toll could increase. Six laborers have sustained fractures in their arms and legs and are currently receiving treatment.

The Rona Police arrived at the scene, conducted an assessment, and registered a case.

The police reported that all victims were employed at a private firm in Bengaluru and had taken a leisure trip to Gokarna, Murudeshwar, and Udupi during a long weekend. The accident occurred while they were returning to Bengaluru.

Initial investigations suggested that the car was speeding and collided with the truck from behind, according to the police.

The impact was severe, leaving the car completely mangled and trapping the occupants inside.
