Amaravati, April 16 (NationPress) - A tragic incident unfolded when two women MGNREGA workers lost their lives and two others were injured as a vehicle recklessly struck them in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district.

The accident occurred along the national highway at Mogalthur on Wednesday, according to police reports.

A Bolero van, traveling from Machilipatnam to Narsapuram, veered off course and crashed into an agricultural field where the MGNREGA workers were laboring.

Tragically, two workers died instantly, while the other two were critically injured and subsequently transported to the government hospital in Narsapuram via ambulance.

The deceased have been identified as Gubbala Gangavathi (50) and Kadali Pavani (40). Gubbala Manikyala Rao and Gudala Satyanarayana sustained injuries. All victims were residents of Nakkavaripalem in Moghalthur mandal.

Upon receiving the distress call, police promptly arrived at the scene and provided assistance to the injured.

Narsapuram MLA Bommidi Narayana Nayakar also hurried to the location to oversee rescue operations alongside officials. The vehicle was removed with a crane's assistance.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the driver’s negligence was a contributing factor to the incident. The van was reportedly speeding, leading to a loss of control. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

West Godavari district Collector Chadalavada Nagarani visited the accident site to express her condolences and pledged support to the victims' families. She instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best medical care.

MLA Bommidi Nayakar expressed his sorrow over the loss of the two MGNREGA workers and extended his sympathies to their families.

He assured the families that the government would ensure justice and, along with the district Collector, visited the Narsapuram government hospital to check on the injured.
