Tragic Accident in Telangana Claims Lives of Five Odisha Workers

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (NationPress) Five migrant workers from Odisha lost their lives and 16 more sustained injuries in a devastating road accident that occurred in Telangana’s Suryapet district on Friday.

The unfortunate event took place near Ilapuram in the Chivvemla block when a private bus transporting the workers collided with a stationary truck. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver may have overlooked the truck parked by the roadside, leading to a rear-end collision.

The police are examining the possibility that a tyre burst might have contributed to this crash. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver lost control post-tyre burst before crashing into the parked vehicle, while some others believe the tyre burst occurred subsequent to the impact. The deceased were from Rayagada in Odisha and were en route to Hyderabad in search of employment.

Authorities reported that four individuals died instantly, while one more succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Responding officers transported the injured to the Government General Hospital in Suryapet.

The private bus was carrying 32 passengers, predominantly labourers seeking work in Hyderabad via an agency. The vehicle was severely damaged in the collision, resulting in significant traffic congestion on the Suryapet-Khammam highway. A crane was deployed by the police to clear the bus from the roadway.

A formal case has been registered by the police, who have initiated an investigation.

Recent months have witnessed a rise in accidents caused by parked vehicles on highways, particularly during nighttime hours. Motorists have been urging highway authorities to implement stricter measures against vehicles parked on highways without adequate warning for road users.

In a separate incident, the driver of a crusher lorry narrowly escaped injury when part of the road caved in the Goshamahal area of Hyderabad on Friday. The section of road adjacent to a nala collapsed while the lorry was traversing it. Local residents noted that this was the second occurrence in the same area in two years, with multiple injuries reported in a similar incident in 2022.
