The deceased has been identified as Roshan Kumar (24), who died immediately, while the injured—Vikas Thakur, Mohammad Anjay, and Sunny Kumar—were swiftly transported to Hajipur Sadar Hospital by local residents.
According to eyewitness Vishnu Prasad, “A speeding pickup truck careened onto the roadside where people were standing. Sadly, one person was killed on the spot, and three others were injured.”
In response to the incident, an enraged crowd apprehended the pickup driver, Anil Kumar, and set the vehicle ablaze, completely destroying it. The driver also faced physical assault from the crowd.
In a show of protest, locals obstructed the Hajipur-Lalganj main road, demanding the implementation of safety measures. Police arrived promptly and took the driver into custody. Fire department personnel were summoned and successfully extinguished the flames after considerable struggle.
Hajipur Sadar SDO Rambabu Baitha stated that the locals' request for the installation of a road barrier will be addressed shortly.
“We will also submit an application for compensation under vehicle accident relief provisions and provide family benefit assistance as applicable,” he noted.
Furthermore, an FIR has been filed against the driver for rash and negligent driving, and the accused will be presented in the district court for judicial custody.
