New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow regarding the recent bus accident in Uttarakhand's Almora district, extending heartfelt condolences for the lives lost.
On Tuesday morning, at least six individuals tragically lost their lives when a bus, carrying approximately 18 passengers, lost control and fell into a steep ravine along the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak road, as reported by officials.
In a statement shared on X, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) quoted PM Modi saying, "The loss of lives due to a bus accident in the Almora district of Uttarakhand is incredibly distressing. My condolences to the families grieving their loved ones. I wish a swift recovery to the injured."
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami voiced his profound sadness over the tragic incident, emphasizing that rescue and relief operations are being prioritized.
"I have received the heart-wrenching news of a bus mishap on the Bikhiyasain-Vinayak Motor Road, which was traveling from Bikhiyasain to Ramnagar in Almora district, leading to casualties among the passengers. This event is deeply painful and sorrowful," stated the Chief Minister in a post on X.
"We beseech God to provide eternal peace to the souls that have departed and grant strength to the bereaved families to navigate through this immense grief," he continued, while also wishing for a speedy recovery for the injured.
"Injured passengers from the accident are being promptly admitted to nearby hospitals by the district administration. Those in serious condition have been referred to advanced medical facilities for optimal treatment. The situation is under continuous monitoring, and I am in constant touch with local administrative authorities," CM Dhami disclosed.
As per official reports, the accident occurred near Shilapani on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak-Jalali motor road. The bus was making its way from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar and had left Dwarahat around 6 a.m.
During the journey, the bus reportedly lost control and fell into a deep gorge. Officials confirmed that six passengers were declared dead at the scene.
It is estimated that around 17 to 18 individuals were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. Several have sustained injuries and have been taken to the nearest government hospital in Bhikiyasain for treatment.
Upon receiving news of the incident, teams from the police, district administration, and the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) hurried to the scene.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing, with authorities raising concerns that some passengers may still be trapped within the vehicle.
Senior district officials have also proceeded to the site to oversee the rescue efforts.
The location of the accident is about 100 kilometers from the district headquarters, creating additional challenges for relief efforts.
Officials reported that the bus driver and conductor are safe and in stable condition.
