Almora, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, conveyed profound sorrow regarding the devastating bus accident in the Almora district that occurred on Tuesday. He stated that rescue and relief operations are being prioritized.
Reports indicate that at least six individuals lost their lives when a bus, transporting approximately 18 passengers, lost control and fell into a deep gorge along the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak road on Tuesday morning, according to officials.
"I have received the heartbreaking news of a bus incident on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak Motor Road, which was on its way from Bikhiyasain to Ramnagar in Almora district, resulting in passenger casualties. This incident is exceedingly tragic and disheartening," the Chief Minister expressed in a post on X.
He continued, "We beseech God to grant eternal tranquility to the departed souls and to provide strength to their grieving families to cope with this overwhelming loss." He also expressed hopes for a swift recovery of the injured.
According to CM Dhami, the district administration is promptly taking the injured passengers to nearby hospitals. Those with serious injuries are being referred to advanced medical facilities for enhanced care. "The entire situation is under constant supervision, and I am maintaining ongoing communication with local authorities," he added.
As per official reports, the accident transpired near Shilapani on the Bhikiyasain-Vinayak-Jalali motor road. The bus had departed from Dwarahat around 6 a.m., heading towards Ramnagar.
While traveling, the bus reportedly went out of control and plunged into a deep gorge. Officials confirmed that six passengers were declared deceased on the scene.
It is estimated that around 17 to 18 individuals were on board at the time of the accident. Multiple passengers sustained injuries and have been admitted to the nearest government hospital in Bhikiyasain for treatment.
Following notification of the incident, teams from the police, district administration, and the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) quickly arrived at the accident site.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities have expressed concern that some passengers may still be trapped within the vehicle.
Senior district officials have also headed to the site to oversee the rescue operations.
The accident occurred nearly 100 kilometers from the district headquarters, presenting additional challenges for relief responses.
Officials confirmed that the bus driver and conductor are safe and in stable condition.
