Chennai, Aug 31 (NationPress) In a devastating road accident that took place near Ramanathapuram early Sunday morning, four family members tragically lost their lives, while one individual suffered severe injuries after their vehicle collided with a lorry.

Reports indicate that the family of five, residents of Ramanathapuram district, were en route to Courtallam for a vacation when the accident occurred. The incident transpired near Nenmeli on the Paramakudi two-way road, a segment often deemed hazardous due to the high volume of heavy vehicle traffic.

The vehicle, operated by Mankudi Kalieswaran (28), collided head-on with an oncoming lorry under circumstances that are still being investigated. The force of the impact was significant, leaving minimal chances of survival for those seated in the front.

Kalieswaran, along with Jamuna (55) and Rubini (30), died instantly. Two other passengers, identified as Govindaraj (65) and Krishnan (48), were swiftly transported with critical injuries to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. Despite medical efforts, Govindaraj succumbed to his injuries later that day, increasing the death toll to four. The fifth passenger, Krishnan, remains under medical care, though details about his injuries have not been disclosed.

Authorities from the Paramakudi Taluk station arrived promptly after receiving alerts. The wreckage of the vehicle was extracted with assistance from locals and fire service personnel, causing temporary traffic delays on this busy road.

The lorry driver is anticipated to be interrogated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have lodged a case and commenced a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
