Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), April 25 (NationPress) – A devastating fire in an industrial facility has resulted in the loss of at least five lives at the Rajgarhia Rice Mill in the Dargah area of Bahraich district on Friday, according to officials. Three others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital, with their conditions reported as critical.
Reports indicate that the fire ignited in the upper section of the rice mill during the early morning hours, causing panic among the workers present.
In a desperate attempt to control the flames, eight workers endeavored to extinguish the fire but were soon engulfed by the thick, toxic smoke that permeated the building. Tragically, five of them succumbed to suffocation within the mill.
The incident was confirmed by Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani, who elaborated on the situation. “The workers were in the process of drying paddy. A machine was operating to eliminate moisture from the grains, and the smoke generated during this operation was deadly. Regrettably, five workers lost their lives due to smoke inhalation,” she explained.
Dr. M.M. Tripathi, the Chief Medical Superintendent at the local hospital, provided further information about the victims. “We received eight individuals. Tragically, five were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other three are currently receiving care. The incident occurred in a mill situated in the Dargah area,” he stated.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the fire and whether safety regulations were breached. Concerns have been raised by fire safety and labor rights advocates regarding the working conditions in such mills, especially during high-risk operations.
Officials have committed to implementing strict measures if any safety oversights or negligence are identified.
