Tribute to Dr. Singh: Karnataka Congress Leader Urges Central Government to be Generous

New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) D.K. Shivakumar, the President of Karnataka Congress and Deputy Chief Minister, expressed on Saturday that the Central Government is misguided in its handling of the appeal for a memorial dedicated to the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Shivakumar made these remarks during a press conference in New Delhi while addressing inquiries related to the matter.

“The approach taken by the central government regarding the establishment of a memorial for the late PM Manmohan Singh is incorrect. They must grant approval for the memorial,” he stated.

“Our AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge was justified in his demands. They should demonstrate a sense of generosity. We urge the central government to exhibit generosity at this point. As the late Dr. Manmohan Singh mentioned, both the Opposition and history will remember him favorably,” Shivakumar emphasized.

He further remarked that Dr. Manmohan Singh left behind a remarkable legacy, having provided constitutional and legal protections to ordinary citizens during his time in office.

“No one paid attention to the Forest Land Act, the Food Security Act, or the Employment Guarantee schemes. In the field of education, he brought about transparency, economic reforms, and dismantled the license raj, empowering Asha workers to assist mothers and safeguard their health. He ensured constitutional security,” Shivakumar noted.

“We have lost a leader of immense stature. At 92 years old, his contributions will continue through his policies. We will always remember how he safeguarded and strengthened our economy during turbulent periods,” he pointed out.

“The late former President APJ Abdul Kalam once wrote to Sonia Gandhi urging her to take on the role of Prime Minister. She declined, asserting that the country required an economist to lead. The credit for this selflessness belongs to the Gandhi family,” Shivakumar emphasized.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, had the chance to become Prime Minister or a central minister but opted not to. Dr. Singh was allowed the freedom to guide the nation. Opposition parties have also acknowledged Manmohan Singh's role in establishing a robust foundation for the Indian economy,” he stated.

Minister for Social Welfare, H.C. Mahadevappa, remarked, “Manmohan Singh rose from extreme poverty. He studied under street lights due to lack of food and emerged as one of the world's most esteemed economists. He serves as a tremendous inspiration for all Indians.”
