Siddaramaiah Calls Late PM Manmohan Singh's Journey a Remarkable Legacy

Belagavi, (Karnataka) Dec 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, remarked on Friday that the late Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, was one of the most revered figures in Indian politics, declaring that his life can only be described as a remarkable legacy.
In a media briefing held in Belagavi, CM Siddaramaiah stated: 'Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away last night (Thursday) at the age of 92. His life is truly a miracle. He was born in a small village located in the Punjab region of present-day Pakistan, and ascended to become a globally recognized economist.'
'Dr. Manmohan Singh was celebrated worldwide as an economist. He served as the Finance Minister for five years during the administration of Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. It was during this time that he laid the groundwork for liberalization and globalization, thereby opening the Indian economy to international markets.'
The Chief Minister underscored that Dr. Singh's initiatives were instrumental in addressing the economic crisis that the nation faced during his tenure, a contribution that should not be overlooked.
'In 2004, following the Congress party's victory, Sonia Gandhi opted not to assume the role of Prime Minister and instead appointed Dr. Manmohan Singh to lead. He governed the country for a decade, dedicating himself earnestly and honestly to the social and economic upliftment of the nation. He is regarded as one of the most principled Prime Ministers in India’s history,' he remarked.
Siddaramaiah pointed out the uncommon integrity exhibited by the late leader in the realm of politics.
'Despite having held the Prime Minister’s office for ten years, he remained humble and straightforward. His contributions have had a profound and enduring effect on the country’s economy. Today, his life and work continue to inspire us all. He never displayed arrogance, embodying the qualities of a simple, composed, and honest politician,' he added.
In offering his condolences, the Chief Minister stated, 'He was among the most respected individuals, and his departure is a significant loss for our nation. I extend my prayers for strength to his family and friends during this difficult time.'
He also acknowledged Dr. Singh's vision in the establishment of the Food Security Act.
'He always prioritized the needs of the poor when he enacted the law aimed at providing food at affordable prices. Prior to that, such legislation did not exist. After the act was enacted, I initiated a program to supply one kilo of rice for Re 1, which later expanded to five kilos for free, and subsequently increased to seven kilos. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is providing five kilos of rice for free, and the credit for this remarkable initiative belongs to Dr. Manmohan Singh,' Siddaramaiah noted.
'Dr. Singh consistently kept the welfare of the poor and unemployed in mind while formulating policies. I had the distinct honor of meeting him on several occasions and even invited him to Bengaluru for a discussion regarding the state’s economy.'
