Karnataka Government Declares Week of Mourning for Dr. Manmohan Singh

Bengaluru, December 27 (NationPress) The Karnataka government has proclaimed a period of seven days of mourning and has also instituted a one-day holiday for educational institutions, including schools and colleges, this coming Friday, following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who died at the age of 92 in Delhi on Thursday night.

In an emergency press conference held in Belagavi, Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar announced that the party has called off the “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan” convention that was set for Saturday. This event was intended to commemorate the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi's presidency in Congress.

“In the same venue where the convention was scheduled, we will be holding a condolence meeting for Manmohan Singh at 10:30 a.m. We will outline further programs after discussions with the Chief Minister and senior party members,” Shivakumar stated.

“On Friday, all government and party activities have been suspended. It is our obligation to participate in the final rites of our leader Manmohan Singh. A few of us, including senior leaders, will be traveling to Delhi. Dr. Manmohan Singh made significant contributions to Karnataka, especially to Bengaluru. One day is insufficient to honor his legacy,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed: “I am profoundly saddened by the loss of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Ji. His vast knowledge, visionary ideas, and effective leadership will ensure that he remains an everlasting figure in India. His unparalleled wisdom has left an indelible impact on our nation.

“It was during his premiership that I first served as Chief Minister of Karnataka. His support for our budgetary initiatives and the influence of landmark policies from the UPA government, such as the Right to Food Act, have significantly shaped the progress and welfare of Karnataka.”

“India has become poorer with the loss of a statesman who prioritized action over rhetoric. May his soul find peace. I hope his family and millions of supporters find strength during this challenging time,” he added.

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy remarked: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh avaru, a visionary economist and statesman who guided India through pivotal moments with grace and wisdom.

“His influence on India’s economic reforms, global standing, and democratic principles will be remembered eternally. Dr. Singh was a symbol of integrity, humility, and intellect in public life, inspiring countless leaders and citizens. His absence creates a void that is irreplaceable. May God provide his family and friends with the strength to endure this profound loss.”

Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijaynedra stated: “I am profoundly saddened by the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh. From initiating economic reforms that opened India to global markets to navigating the nation through challenging times as Prime Minister, his contributions are monumental. He will be remembered for his dignity, intellect, and steadfast commitment to India’s advancement. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength during this difficult period.”
