Kolkata, June 26 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress has issued a show-cause notice to Humayun Kabir, the party legislator from the Debra Assembly constituency in West Midnapore, over his choice to meet the family of the 13-year-old girl tragically killed in a bomb explosion in Kaliganj, Nadia district, earlier this week. This meeting occurred without prior notification to party leadership.
Kabir, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, visited the victim's home on Wednesday evening, where he presented monetary assistance to the girl's mother. He asserted that the funds were not provided on his behalf or the party's but were from a voluntary organization he is affiliated with.
However, the victim's mother declined the offer, stating she would not accept any compensation, whether from the state government, the Trinamool Congress, or any individual associated with the ruling party.
She emphasized that her and her husband's sole focus is to achieve justice for their daughter and ensure those responsible for her death are held accountable.
The issuance of the show-cause notice has been confirmed by the party's state Vice President, Jayprakash Majumdar, who indicated that Kabir must respond to the notice within three days.
A senior cabinet member from West Bengal pointed out that Kabir's actions, without informing party officials, and the mother's refusal to accept the money have caused significant embarrassment for the Trinamool Congress.
“His actions suggested he was representing the party to negotiate with the victim's family and avoid further controversy. In truth, it was a personal decision that did not involve consultation with party leadership, prompting the show-cause notice,” said the cabinet member.
Since Thursday afternoon, Kabir has not been reachable for comments regarding the incident.
As of now, five individuals have been apprehended in connection with the death of Tamanna Khatun, the minor girl.
The victim's family and locals allege that she was killed by shrapnel from a bomb thrown during a victory celebration for a ruling party candidate, Alifa Ahmed, in the recent bypolls.
The victim's mother accused the local police of neglecting the political motives behind the bombing targeting her residence, which she claims occurred because her family has historically supported the CPI-M.
She questioned how only five people could be arrested when approximately 40 to 50 bombs were thrown at her home, indicating that such an operation could not have been executed by just a handful of individuals.
The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the case, seeking answers from Amarnath K, the Superintendent of Police for Krishnanagar District, where Kaliganj is located.
