TMC Worker Shot in Halisahar on Last Day of Campaigning
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was shot at by bike-borne masked assailants in Halisahar, North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, on the night of Monday, April 28, sending shockwaves through the region just hours before the second phase of Assembly elections. The victim, Prosenjit Maulik alias Raja, a resident of Khasbati North Road, was critically injured and admitted to Kalyani JNM Hospital, according to police.
What Happened on Misri Pukur Road
According to police accounts, Raja was standing on the roadside along Misri Pukur Road in Ward No. 9 of Halisahar when a group of masked men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. A total of three rounds were discharged at close range. One bullet struck Raja in the stomach, while the remaining two bullets reportedly hit the mobile phone in his pocket, potentially preventing further injury. Locals at the scene rushed him to Kalyani JNM Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A large contingent of police personnel was deployed to the area immediately after the incident was reported. Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been launched and a vigorous manhunt is underway to apprehend the assailants.
