Shocking Video: Trinamool Councillor and Wife Attack Doctor in West Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 10 (NationPress) A disturbing video has surfaced online showing a Trinamool Congress Councillor and his wife violently attacking a doctor inside his office in Egra, located in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal.
The video was shared on Tuesday afternoon by West Bengal's Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) figure, Suvendu Adhikari. He asserted that this footage highlighted the perilous situation for medical professionals in West Bengal under the governance of Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress.
Interestingly, East Midnapore is the home district of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
Adhikari also referenced the tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August 2024.
“No doctor in West Bengal is secure under the current Trinamool Congress administration. Whether it concerns the sister of R.G. Kar or any physician working in state-run or private healthcare, they are all at risk,” remarked LoP Adhikari.
According to the BJP leader, the assaulted doctor in the video is named Tapendra Manna, while the assailants are identified as Debodurlabh Maity, also known as Bacchu, a Trinamool Congress Councillor from Ward No. 8 of Egra Municipality, along with his wife.
LoP Adhikari described the scene, stating it occurred in Tapendra Manna's office near Egra Central Bus Stand on Monday.
“The video captured the moment when Tapendra Manna was treating patients when Debodurlabh Maity and his wife stormed into his office, causing chaos. The doctor faced physical aggression during this outburst,” Adhikari claimed.
He emphasized that this incident showcases the deplorable state of law and order in West Bengal, where law enforcement seems to have become subservient to the ruling Trinamool Congress.
“If you’re a Trinamool leader, there seems to be no accountability. This is not the rule of law, but the law of the powerful. The people of West Bengal need a change, and that’s why we require a BJP government in the state,” added the LoP.
