Kolkata, July 7 (NationPress) A video shared by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari went viral on social media on Monday, depicting a Trinamool Congress legislator physically assaulting a senior government official in West Bengal within the confines of his office.
The individual being attacked is Pralay Chakraborty, the assistant registrar of West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS), while the assailant is identified as Humayun Kabir, the Trinamool Congress MLA for the Debra Assembly constituency in West Midnapore district.
This incident occurred in Chakraborty’s office located in Salt Lake, on the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
Adhikari was the first to post the video on his official X handle, which quickly gained traction across social media platforms.
He stated that the footage was obtained from a CCTV camera positioned in Chakraborty’s office. However, IANS has been unable to verify the video's authenticity.
“It is widely recognized that the audacity and arrogance of Trinamool Congress leaders have reached alarming levels. A shocking episode has surfaced, highlighting the lawlessness and arrogance that have come to define Mamata Banerjee's administration. The CCTV footage from WBUHS in Salt Lake captures a disgraceful act: Former Minister & Trinamool Congress MLA from Debra, Humayun Kabir (Ex IPS), physically assaulted Assistant Registrar Shri Pralay Chakraborty within his office,” Adhikari remarked in a statement accompanying the video.
He further mentioned that the footage shows the ruling party legislator brazenly kicking, punching, and harassing the state official, who ultimately had to flee his office to evade the violence. “This disgraceful incident is visible for all to see, yet the Health Department's silence is deafening,” the opposition leader stated.
As of now, Kabir has not made any public statements, and none of the Trinamool Congress leaders were willing to comment on the situation at the time of this report.
Kabir recently found himself in the spotlight after visiting the home of a minor girl who was tragically killed in a bomb blast in Kaliganj, Nadia district. He allegedly offered money to the victim's mother following the incident.
The young girl, Tamanna Khatun, was reportedly killed by splinters from crude bombs thrown towards their home during a victory procession for Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed, who won the Kaliganj bypolls. Subsequently, Kabir received a show-cause notice from the Trinamool Congress concerning this matter.
