Agartala, Nov 9 (NationPress) In a significant gathering, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha was present as senior BJP leaders convened a crucial meeting here on Sunday to deliberate on various organizational matters and upcoming party initiatives.
The State BJP President and Rajya Sabha member Rajib Bhattacharjee shared on his X account, stating: "On this Sunday, in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Saha at the state party office, I participated in an organizational meeting with state office bearers, presidents and chairpersons of all morchas, alongside district presidents. We focused on several upcoming activities and set forth directions for future action."
This meeting took place following the Chief Minister's two private discussions with Tipra Motha Party (TMP) supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma concerning the execution of the tripartite 'Tiprasa Accord'.
Signed on March 2 last year in New Delhi, the accord aims at the overall socio-economic advancement of the indigenous tribal communities in the state.
In response to reporters, the Chief Minister remarked on Saturday that discussions revolved around the progress of implementing this tripartite agreement, which was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and himself.
TMP's founder and leader, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, described the meeting as "very positive," affirming that collaboration between his party and the BJP will continue to benefit tribal communities.
Another BJP official noted that with elections for the politically significant Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) approaching early next year, party leaders were tasked with evaluating the organizational strength at the booth level across all tribal areas.
He mentioned that the BJP has appointed observers for all 28 TTAADC seats.
As the elections for the crucial TTAADC draw near, both the BJP and its allies, the TMP and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), are independently striving to bolster their hold within tribal communities.
Both TMP and IPFT are parties focused on tribal interests.
Since 2021, the TMP, led by former royal scion Debbarma, has been managing the 30-member (28 elected, 2 nominated by the Governor) TTAADC.
This tribal autonomous entity governs nearly two-thirds of Tripura's 10,491 square kilometers, home to over 1.21 million individuals, approximately 84% of whom are tribals.
Tribal individuals make up about one-third of Tripura's four million inhabitants and are pivotal in the state's electoral dynamics.
Out of the 60 Assembly seats, 20 are designated for tribal candidates.
