Tripura CM Manik Saha to attend BJP swearing-in in Bengal, Assam
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and several senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Tripura will attend the swearing-in ceremonies of newly elected BJP-led governments in West Bengal on 10 May and Assam on 12 May, marking a significant moment for the party's expanding footprint across eastern India.
West Bengal: A Historic First for BJP
In the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, the BJP scripted history by coming to power in the state for the first time, securing a commanding 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly and decisively defeating the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) led by Mamata Banerjee. The TMC managed to win only 80 seats, a sharp reduction from its previous majority. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata at 10 am on Saturday.
The event coincides with the birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as per the Bengali calendar, lending added cultural significance to the occasion. Governor R.N. Ravi will administer the oath of office in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers of other BJP-ruled states, and senior party leaders from across the country.
Assam: BJP Retains Power for Third Consecutive Term
In Assam, the BJP-led alliance further consolidated its position, with the BJP alone winning 82 seats in the 126-member Assembly, enabling the party to retain power for a third consecutive term. Alliance partners — the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland Peoples Front — secured 10 seats each. The Indian National Congress (Congress) won 19 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front and Raijor Dal secured two seats each. The TMC won one seat. BJP sources confirmed that several party leaders from Tripura will attend the 12 May swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.
