The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a final location survey for a proposed railway line intended to link the Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex in West Tripura, with the goal of fostering trade and industrial development. In a post on his official X account, Chief Minister Saha shared: “We are thankful to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Hon’ble Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw Ji for approving the new rail track from Jirania to Bodhjungnagar Industrial Estate.”
“This vital infrastructure project will enhance connectivity and logistics, driving industrial progress in the area,” Saha noted in his message.
Transport Minister Chowdhury also took to Facebook to announce that the Ministry of Railways has given the green light for the final survey of the new railway line connecting Jirania and Bodhjungnagar.
“The approval signifies a major step towards fortifying railway infrastructure in Tripura, facilitating industrial mobility in the Bodhjungnagar industrial zone. Once operational, the upcoming Jirania-Bodhjungnagar railway line is anticipated to serve as a dedicated rail corridor for transporting industrial goods from the Bodhjungnagar industrial center,” he stated.
Chowdhury, who also oversees the Tourism portfolio, emphasized that this development would benefit industrialists, traders, and the general populace by enhancing logistics and connectivity.
Upon completion of the survey and subsequent railway construction, the project is expected to stimulate industrial growth in the surrounding districts of West Tripura, contributing to the local economic landscape, he added.
The initiative is set to significantly enhance rail connectivity within the state and play a crucial role in propelling overall economic advancement in the region.
Chowdhury conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister, Tripura Chief Minister, and Railway Minister for this pivotal step in the state's progress.
The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, stated on Monday that the Ministry of Railways has granted approval for conducting a final location survey for the new line between the Jirania rail yard and the Bodhjungnagar Industrial complex. This project spans a distance of 14 km and is estimated to cost ₹42 lakh.
Bodhjungnagar serves as a key industrial and commercial hub in West Tripura, which is central to the state's eight districts.
Sharma reported that this area has been developed for resource-based industries, particularly in rubber, bamboo, and food processing. The proposed Jirania-Bodhjungnagar section will provide an essential rail corridor for transporting industrial products, yielding substantial benefits for the people of Tripura, including traders.
According to the NFR official, the sanctioned survey will facilitate further industrial development in the surrounding districts, thereby bolstering the local economy. The project is anticipated to enhance railway connectivity, enable smoother train operations, strengthen local supply chains, and support economic growth throughout the region.
The CPRO disclosed that the final location survey will entail a thorough evaluation of geographical features, proposed bridges, soil conditions, and other engineering considerations. A detailed report will subsequently be compiled and presented to the Ministry of Railways for further deliberation and approval.
This survey represents a crucial preparatory phase for the forthcoming railway line project. Meanwhile, the government-owned Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) has established the Bodhjungnagar Industrial complex, covering an area of 535.73 acres in West Tripura District.
The infrastructure at Bodhjungnagar Industrial Complex includes a growth center, Rubber Park, Bamboo Park, Food Park, Export Promotion Industrial Park, and numerous private industrial units.
