Agartala, April 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, participated in a rally in Agartala on Monday to celebrate World Health Day 2025. He highlighted the urgent need to address the growing issue of drug abuse, especially among injectable drug users, which has contributed to an uptick in HIV/AIDS cases in the state.

Following the rally organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT), the Chief Minister stated that reducing drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and child marriage is essential for fostering a healthier society.

“These challenges are not just health-related but are significant social issues,” remarked Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare department.

With the theme ‘Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future’ for World Health Day 2025, various events took place across Tripura, with the main celebration occurring in Agartala, attracting numerous doctors, nurses, health workers, students from various educational backgrounds, and community members.

During his address, the Chief Minister underscored the critical health and social issues confronting society.

Expressing concern over the increasing risk of HIV, Saha, a trained dental surgeon, also pointed out early child marriage as a pressing matter.

Reiterating the government's commitment to bolstering the healthcare system, he mentioned that the administration prioritizes enhancing health infrastructure and revealed plans to set up a dedicated eye hospital in the state.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Tripura as a medical hub, supported by escalating investments in the health sector.

“Tripura is now recognized as one of the most peaceful states, and we are benefiting from increased investments, including in healthcare infrastructure. Residents should utilize the super-specialty services available here rather than seeking expensive treatments outside the state,” he noted.

Dr. Pradip Bhowmik, a prominent physician and founder of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura, stressed the importance of raising awareness regarding the care of girl children, preventing child marriage, and ensuring adequate healthcare for pregnant women before, during, and post-childbirth.

“Adequate prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care will ensure the arrival of a healthy child,” Bhowmik said, advocating for the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices to ward off diseases.

The rally traversed key streets of Agartala, disseminating messages about healthy practices and the significance of mental well-being.

World Health Day is commemorated globally on April 7 annually to recognize the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948.

Since 1950, this day has served as a vital platform to spotlight significant health issues affecting communities worldwide.
