What Warning Did Tripura CM Issue to BJP Workers?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Agartala, Jan 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, issued a stern warning on Sunday to BJP party members, emphasizing that any form of illegal or unlawful actions would not be accepted.
Manik Saha stated that there is no tolerance for unlawful behavior within the BJP, promising that strict measures will be enforced against those who breach party discipline.
“Some party workers lack a full understanding of how our party operates. They need to grasp the expectations of the party and its leadership,” Saha remarked to reporters.
He mentioned that directives have been relayed to implement firm actions against individuals found engaging in illicit or unlawful conduct.
“We cannot allow the actions of a few to damage the reputation and standing of the BJP. It is essential to demonstrate that the BJP is distinct from the CPI (M) and Congress,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Saha’s comments followed the recent arrest of a BJP leader linked to alleged criminal conduct.
On Sunday, the ruling BJP took immediate steps to suspend Rajib Saha, the President of the Barjala Mandal Committee, due to his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The state BJP General Secretary, Amit Rakshit, announced, “In accordance with the directive from the state BJP President, Rajib Bhattacharjee, MP (Rajya Sabha), Rajib Saha has been suspended immediately following his arrest on January 24 for alleged criminal actions.”
Reports indicate that numerous complaints have been filed against Rajib Saha for allegedly collecting money illegally from individuals, including those purchasing land in the Barjala area near Agartala.
Last week, he reportedly acted inappropriately towards the Tripura High Court Registrar (Administration, Planning, and Head of Office), Sankar Lal Dutta, and assaulted his bodyguard during a visit to inspect land earmarked for purchase.
Subsequently, police arrested Rajib Saha after a complaint was lodged by the judicial officer's bodyguard. Dutta previously served as the District and Sessions Judge in Gomati district. This incident provoked significant political reactions across the state.
Furthermore, earlier in the month, the Tripura BJP cautioned its members against misrepresenting the party’s perspectives.
Without naming anyone, the Tripura BJP state committee acknowledged that a person was falsely presenting himself as a potential state president and visiting various districts to connect with party members, creating confusion and misinformation.
The party clarified that the election or appointment of the state president and other officials is performed through a defined and transparent process, as mandated by its constitution.
“The Tripura BJP unit has declared that such actions, which contravene the party constitution, are against party discipline and represent serious indiscipline,” stated Sunit Sarkar, in charge of the state BJP media cell.
He added that under the direction of the state BJP President, all district and mandal presidents and party members have been instructed that indiscipline and misinformation will not be tolerated.
The party also urged its members to avoid associations with individuals or groups engaging in such activities, warning that appropriate organizational actions will be taken against violators according to party regulations. The election for a new Tripura BJP state president is significantly overdue.
Current president Rajib Bhattacharjee, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, remains in office after the party postponed the election schedule in July of the previous year.
