Tumakuru (Karnataka), Sep 29 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced on Monday that the highly anticipated Tumakuru Metro project is on track for completion.

Located just 70 km from Bengaluru, Tumakuru city is set to benefit from this development.

During a press briefing, Parameshwara stated, "In the 2024–25 state budget, the Chief Minister highlighted a feasibility study to extend the Metro line from Madavara to Tumakuru. This study was assigned to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

"BMRCL has called for tenders worth Rs 3 crore and has awarded the feasibility study to a firm based in Hyderabad. That company has now provided its report to the government," he continued.

The state government has approved this report and has directed BMRCL to create a detailed project report (DPR) under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, according to the Minister.

"The initial phase of the project is projected to cost Rs 20,649 crore, and numerous private firms have already shown interest," he noted.

"An order was issued by the state government on September 25, instructing BMRCL to prepare a DPR for the implementation of the 59.6-km Metro railway system from Madavara to Tumakuru under the PPP model, costing Rs 3 crore. This means the Tumakuru Metro project is making steady progress, and the long-awaited dream of the Tumakuru residents is likely to soon become a reality," the Minister affirmed.

"Additionally, a social, economic, and educational survey, referred to as the caste census, is advancing swiftly in the district, and we are currently ranked second in the state," he added.

In a press conference held at the Deputy Commissioner's office, Parameshwara explained that this survey is being conducted statewide by the Department of Backward Classes Welfare as per the state government's directive.

The survey spans 12,285 blocks across Karnataka, with school teachers serving as enumerators, he mentioned.

In Tumakuru district, the survey covers a total of 6,544 blocks and includes 7,55,483 households.

He noted that compared to other districts, the progress in Tumakuru is notably faster.
