Bengaluru, June 9 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara convened with Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, on Monday to deliberate on various projects that are currently pending with the Central government.

In a briefing to reporters at his official residence, Parameshwara, who also oversees Tumakuru district, highlighted the urgency of constructing a welcome arch along the National Highway in Tumakuru. This addition is crucial, he noted, as the proximity of Tumakuru city to the National Highway often goes unnoticed by travellers.

He revealed that they have secured Rs 5 crore from the Smart City initiative for the welcome arch project. However, the local National Highway director indicated that Central government approval is still required.

Since Union Minister Somanna serves as their local MP, Parameshwara has urged him to relay this request to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to expedite the necessary approval. Once granted, the welcome arch will be constructed at the entrance of Tumakuru.

In addition, he pointed out the need for numerous Central government schemes to benefit their district, particularly several drinking water initiatives which he discussed with the Union Minister.

On the Tumakuru Metro project, Parameshwara mentioned that Somanna has provided a favorable response. He expressed intent to follow up once the state government makes its decisions, asserting that a Metro system is vital for Tumakuru. There are also aspirations for a suburban rail project, which he believes would be advantageous if both projects are implemented.

“Tumakuru is experiencing rapid growth and has become an industrial hub covering 20,000 acres. There is a significant public demand for Tumakuru’s expansion. An evaluation is currently underway. Tumakuru’s 70-kilometer distance from Bengaluru suggests that including it in the Greater Bengaluru area could enhance development prospects. We plan to submit a proposal regarding this,” Parameshwara remarked.

Addressing the contentious Hemavathi Canal issue, he advised against protests and mentioned that a meeting has been requested. Discussions with the Irrigation Minister are forthcoming, which will help determine the next steps.
