TVK Leader Vijay Criticizes Amit Shah's Comments on Ambedkar

Chennai, Dec 19 (NationPress) Tamil film icon and President of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, has taken aim at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his recent statements concerning B.R. Ambedkar made in the Parliament.

In a post shared on the social media platform X on Wednesday, Vijay conveyed his anger, implying that certain individuals might be "allergic" to the name of Ambedkar.

He celebrated Ambedkar as an "unmatched political and intellectual figure" who embodies the essence of freedom for every citizen of India.

Vijay asserted that Ambedkar's legacy serves as a guiding light for marginalized communities, representing a stand against social injustice.

He pledged to consistently chant the name of Ambedkar, reflecting his profound respect for the legendary leader.

"AmbedkarAmbedkarAmbedkar… Let us keep celebrating his name with joy in our hearts and on our lips," declared the TVK President.

Opposition parties nationally have also decried Amit Shah's comments made in the Rajya Sabha on December 17.

Union Home Minister Shah remarked that there is now a "trend" of frequently mentioning Ambedkar's name, adding that had the Opposition invoked God's name as often, they would have reached heaven.

These remarks from the Union Home Minister have incited widespread backlash.

Vijay had referred to Ambedkar as one of the ideological mentors of the TVK during his party's inaugural rally in Vikravandi, located in northern Tamil Nadu.

This area is home to a substantial Dalit population and is recognized as a stronghold of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) President Thol. Thirumavalavan.

The VCK, previously known as the Dalit Panthers of India, is led by Thirumavalavan.

Vijay's newly established party seems to be aiming at Dalit voters, capitalizing on his significant following among marginalized communities stemming from his film career.

He has garnered popularity among Dalits and other disadvantaged groups due to the socially conscious roles he portrayed in films that resonated strongly with these communities.

According to the 2011 Census, Dalits make up approximately 20 percent of Tamil Nadu's population.

However, activists suggest that this number may have risen by six percent in recent years.
