Twenty-Three Injured in Two Distinct Traffic Incidents in Tripura

Agartala, Jan 5 (NationPress) At least 23 individuals, comprising students, children, and women, were injured in two distinct traffic incidents in Tripura on Sunday, as reported by police.
A police representative stated that around 10 school students and a woman were injured when a bus transporting them unexpectedly caught fire in Mohanpur, located in West Tripura, during the evening.
The representative added that about 80 students, 50 guardians, and three teachers traveled in three buses to Bashgram in Mohanpur for their winter vacation. Upon their return, one of the buses ignited, but the students and several women guardians remarkably escaped a significant disaster by quickly exiting the bus.
Initial reports indicate that a generator was operating within the bus, and due to severe jolts, it caught fire, which subsequently spread to the bus's structure.
At least 10 students and a woman experienced breathing difficulties, with six of them promptly transferred to the government-operated Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital, where their conditions were reported to be stable.
The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, expressed profound concern regarding this incident. In a post on X, he stated, “Deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident in Mohanpur, where a picnic party bus caught fire following a generator explosion. Praying for the swift recovery of those injured in this tragic event. Six of the injured have been referred to GB Pant Hospital for further care. We are closely observing the situation to ensure that the injured receive prompt medical attention. I urge everyone to exercise caution and mindfulness while enjoying their picnics.”
In a separate incident, 12 individuals, including women and children, were injured when a truck carrying a group of picnickers lost control and fell into a gully adjacent to Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary.
Local firefighters swiftly arrived at the location, rescued all passengers, and transported the injured to Bishalgarh Hospital for medical attention. While the precise cause of the accident remains to be determined, preliminary assessments suggest that the vehicle may have lost control due to poor road conditions or mechanical failure.
According to government statistics, at least 226 individuals lost their lives in traffic accidents across Tripura in 2024. Despite various measures adopted and enforced by the state government, road accidents persist as a significant concern in the northeastern state.
