Srinagar, Nov 8 (NationPress) Two terrorists were eliminated when vigilant soldiers of the Indian Army thwarted an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, as reported by Defence sources on Saturday.
According to sources, Operation Pimple in the Keran sector resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists during a failed infiltration attempt late last evening.
Troops from the 21 Grenadiers detected suspicious activity near the forward defended location (FDL) Pimple in the LoC’s Keran sector late Friday evening.
“Upon observing the suspicious movement, the 21 Grenadiers opened fire, followed by a brief exchange of small arms. So far, two terrorists have been neutralized in this ongoing operation,” the sources stated.
“A comprehensive search operation is currently underway in the area to confirm that no terrorists have successfully crossed the LoC,” the sources added.
The Army stationed along the LoC remains on high alert 24/7 due to Intelligence reports suggesting that terror handlers on the Pakistani side are likely to attempt infiltration before heavy snowfall closes mountain passes leading into the Valley.
J&K features a 740-km-long LoC running through Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley, extending into Poonch, Rajouri, and partially into Jammu district.
The LoC is secured by the Army, complemented by an International Border (IB) stretching 240 km across Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, which is monitored by the Border Security Force (BSF). Both Army and BSF forces are tasked with preventing infiltration by terrorists, as well as tackling drug smuggling and drug trafficking.
Additionally, J&K Police and security forces operate in the hinterland to conduct anti-terrorism operations and address issues related to drug smuggling, hawala money networks, and other illicit financial activities.
It is widely believed that proceeds from illegal activities such as drug trafficking and hawala networks are ultimately utilized to sustain terrorism in J&K.
In a revised strategy, security forces are conducting aggressive operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the entire ecosystem of terror.
