Two Women Terror Affiliates Taken Into Custody in Udhampur, J&K

Jammu, Dec 3 (NationPress) On Tuesday, law enforcement officials apprehended two women terror affiliates under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The women have been identified as Maryama Begum, spouse of Mohd Shafeeq from Loudhara, Basantgarh; and Arshada Begum, widow of the late Jamal Din from Rai Chak in Basantgarh, according to official reports.

“They were evaluated to be presenting a significant danger to the safety and security of the state. Their involvement in providing logistical support to terrorists and acting as guides/facilitators for terrorist organizations was established. Their ongoing actions posed a serious threat to public safety and peace. Consequently, in order to avert further criminal activities harmful to the state's security, both were ordered to be detained under the PSA,” officials stated.

The PSA is a stringent legal provision that allows for a person to be held for up to two years without any judicial review.

The police have been executing search operations as part of an extensive crackdown on various terrorist networks, notably those associated with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) throughout the Jammu region.

Recently, raids were executed across 56 locations in four districts within the Jammu region. This large-scale operation resulted in the detention of multiple Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and suspected terrorists, alongside the seizure of incriminating materials, including electronic devices, documents, unaccounted cash, weapons, and ammunition.

Officials indicated that inquiries are ongoing based on the evidence and information obtained during the raids. “Further operations are in the pipeline to target any remaining factions aiming to disrupt peace in the area,” Additional DGP (Jammu) Anand Jain informed the media last week.

In Udhampur district, extensive searches were conducted at 25 sites in the Basantgarh area, including Rai Chak, Chaka, Kadwah, Morha, Kund, Khaned, Ponara, Loudhra, and Sang in the preceding week. A police statement later issued regarding the operation noted, “The operations aimed to identify, track, and apprehend OGWs and other terror suspects engaged in supporting terrorist groups by managing logistics, recruitment, and facilitating the movement of arms, ammunition, and funds. Searches were carried out at numerous sites, including residential properties and hideouts...”
