Two Young Men Lose Their Lives in Motorcycle Crash Against Flyover Guardrail in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 22 (NationPress) Two young men were tragically killed when their motorcycle collided with a guardrail at a flyover in Kolkata on Sunday morning.

The victims have been identified as Anish Rana (19) and Danish Alam (18), both hailing from the Bowbazar neighborhood of Kolkata.

According to witnesses, Alam was operating the motorcycle at a dangerously high speed on Maa Flyover, a location notorious for frequent accidents.

Additionally, it was noted that neither Rana nor Alam were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and the motorcycle struck a guardrail while navigating a curve on the flyover. The force of the collision caused both riders to fall from the flyover, resulting in severe head injuries.

Locals gathered at the scene and promptly alerted the local authorities. The injured individuals were quickly transported to the S.S.K.M. Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, where they were pronounced dead.

City police sources indicated that due to the high incidence of accidents on Maa Flyover, law enforcement frequently conducts awareness campaigns emphasizing safe driving practices, particularly for motorcycle riders.

"Motorcyclists are especially warned to wear helmets and refrain from speeding on the flyover. Unfortunately, many riders, particularly youths, often disregard these safety advisories. If the motorcycle had been traveling at a more controlled speed while navigating the curve, this tragic incident might have been prevented. Moreover, had the two young men been wearing helmets, their lives could have potentially been spared," stated an official from the Traffic Department of the city police.

In addition to speeding, the official noted that another contributing factor to the frequent motorcycle accidents on Maa Flyover is the danger posed by stray and sharp Chinese kite strings. To mitigate this risk, city police have installed a four-foot wire fence above the guard walls of Maa Flyover.
