Kolkata, March 21 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, four individuals lost their lives and two others sustained severe injuries due to a dreadful accident on a flyover situated on the northern fringe of Kolkata, spanning the Hooghly river, on Friday morning.
As per local law enforcement, the incident occurred when a small goods truck, laden with clothing, overturned and plunged off the Nivedita Setu flyover, falling approximately 40 feet as a result of a tyre burst.
Eyewitnesses rushed to the scene and managed to extract the six individuals, including the driver, from the wreckage of the truck.
Authorities were notified swiftly, and police arrived promptly to assist in transporting the injured to a nearby hospital.
Regrettably, four of the six injured passengers were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The remaining two are receiving medical attention, with their conditions being reported as extremely critical.
Reports indicate that the goods vehicle originated from Habra in the North 24 Parganas district and was en route to a wholesale garment market located at Ankurhati in the Domjur block of Howrah district.
It was noted by eyewitnesses that the deceased individuals were seated on sacks filled with clothes within the vehicle. The truck was traveling at a high speed when the tyre burst occurred, causing the driver to lose control, leading to the vehicle's overturning and subsequent fall from the flyover.
The identities of the four deceased have not yet been established. The police are actively working to identify them and notify their relatives.
“We anticipate obtaining information regarding the deceased once we are able to communicate with the injured individuals who are currently hospitalized,” stated a local police official.
