New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) A British woman, who traveled to Delhi to meet a man she connected with on Instagram, was sexually assaulted by him at a hotel located in Mahipalpur in the southwest region of Delhi's Vasant Kunj.
Authorities confirmed that her so-called "friend" and his associate have been taken into custody for the crimes of rape and molestation.
The distressing incident occurred on Tuesday night after the victim and her companion, Kailash, 25, who is currently unemployed, shared dinner and drinks, according to police reports.
Kailash, a resident of Vasundhara-Mayur Vihar, faces charges of rape, while his friend Wasim, a housekeeper, has been charged with molestation, as stated by law enforcement officials.
The police have also notified the British High Commission, as per an official statement.
Kailash, who has completed education until Class 12 and does not speak English, reportedly impressed the British tourist through social media with the help of Google Translate.
"Kailash utilized Hindi on Google Translate and subsequently read the English version to the British woman," an official disclosed.
The incident was uncovered when the woman sought medical attention at a hospital the following morning, with hospital staff alerting the Vasant Kunj North police station about the sexual assault.
The two suspects, who are now in police custody, were apprehended on Wednesday afternoon, according to a police official.
The woman had arrived in India on March 7 for a vacation covering Maharashtra and Goa, and later contacted Kailash to join her.
Upon Kailash's inability to travel to Mumbai, he invited her to Delhi. She subsequently arrived in the national capital on March 11 and checked into a hotel in Mahipalpur.
After checking in, she called Kailash and requested his presence. The accused allegedly arrived at the hotel with Wasim and committed the assault on Tuesday.
According to police, when Kailash attempted to assault her, she protested and raised an alarm, prompting him to summon Wasim for assistance.
During the investigation, law enforcement recovered social media conversations between Kailash and the victim.
An official noted that the woman had little knowledge of Kailash's profile.
