Hyderabad, Jan 21 (NationPress) Unilever, a prominent player in the global FMCG sector, has confirmed plans to set up two production facilities in Telangana.
The first facility will focus on palm oil production in the Kamareddy district, while the second will be dedicated to manufacturing bottle caps.
During a discussion held in Davos with Hein Schumacher, CEO of Unilever, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy successfully advocated for the establishment of these plants in the state.
According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Unilever, which operates as Hindustan Unilever in India, has previously had minimal presence in Telangana.
In the meeting attended by IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and representatives from the Telangana Rising delegation, discussions revolved around investment and business prospects for Unilever in Telangana. CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the unique geographical benefits of the land-locked state, emphasizing its potential as a gateway connecting southern India with eastern, western, and central regions.
He presented to the Unilever executives the logistical and supply chain advantages of manufacturing within Telangana alongside additional appealing factors such as a vast consumer market, outstanding ease of doing business, progressive policies aligned with global standards, and an ambitious vision for 2050 - TelanganaRising.
The Chief Minister encouraged the Unilever team to explore sectors that are experiencing significant growth in India and to establish such operations within the country.
In response, Unilever CEO announced plans to set up a palm oil processing and refining facility in Telangana.
CM Reddy extended his full support and offered any suitable site in the Kamareddy district for the facility.
The Unilever team also committed to creating a new manufacturing unit for bottle caps. Given that many Unilever products are sold in liquid form, with substantial quantities currently imported, this development would significantly boost Telangana's manufacturing sector.
Extending a warm welcome to Unilever, the Chief Minister assured that the government would provide comprehensive assistance for the company's significant entry and expansion in the region.
"We must grow together while ensuring we do not overlook broader sustainability and fairness goals for both people and the planet," he stated.
