New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) In anticipation of the Milkipur by-elections set for February 5, coinciding with the Delhi Assembly polls, the INDIA bloc expressed optimism regarding their upcoming electoral performance. Both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, members of the INDIA bloc, affirmed their solidarity for the Milkipur by-elections, aiming to outmaneuver the rival BJP.

The results from this bypoll and the Delhi Assembly elections will be revealed on February 8.

The Milkipur by-election is viewed as a pivotal battle between the ruling BJP and the opposing SP, particularly after the high-stakes November 2024 by-elections across nine Assembly seats, where both parties engaged in vigorous campaigning.

This seat became vacant due to the resignation of Awadhesh Prasad, who secured the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections, defeating BJP's Lallu Singh, which represented a notable political shift in Ayodhya (Faizabad), making the Milkipur bypoll a vital test for both parties.

In a statement to IANS, Awadhesh Prasad stressed the significance of the electorate in influencing the election's outcome.

"This election transcends the Samajwadi Party, Awadhesh Prasad, or Akhilesh Yadav. The populace has taken charge, and the results are beyond alteration," he asserted.

Prasad underscored the party's vigorous campaign strategies, with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav actively overseeing activities and senior leaders like Dimple Yadav and Shivpal Yadav anticipated to participate in the campaign.

He emphasized the necessity of free and fair voting, referring to the election as a "temple of democracy" and a chance to set a precedent.

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai mirrored the confidence of the INDIA bloc, stating, "We are united in Milkipur. The candidate from the INDIA bloc, nominated by the SP, will assuredly win. Congress will extend support wherever necessary."

The BJP has nominated Chandrabhan Paswan, a lawyer, to contest against SP's Ajit Prasad, Awadhesh Prasad's son. Paswan's selection clarifies the BJP's strategy, paving the way for an intense contest.

The BJP's defeat in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, despite the inauguration of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, represented a considerable setback, challenging the party's supremacy in a region regarded as its stronghold.

In the forthcoming days, the Milkipur constituency in Ayodhya is poised for vigorous campaigning from leaders of both BJP and SP, as the two parties compete for dominance in this politically charged environment.
