Lucknow, Oct 5 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Minister Dharampal Singh on Sunday defended the Yogi government's rigorous approach towards those causing disturbances during the recent unrest in Bareilly. He emphasized that individuals involved in violent acts will be confronted with a strong response rather than being welcomed with flowers, asserting that the rule of law must prevail to ensure order.
The cabinet minister addressed reporters, stating that everyone should have the right to worship, express slogans, and practice their faith. However, he warned that if anyone resorts to vandalism or violence, they will face strict consequences.
His statements come amid claims from Congress MP Imran Masood suggesting a biased and religion-oriented approach in the government's actions against protestors in Bareilly, where a significant gathering from the minority community took to the streets following Friday prayers last week.
Singh clarified that actions taken are based on criminal behavior rather than religious affiliation, asserting that the Yogi government promotes social justice instead of appeasement.
“In Bareilly, Taufiq Raza Khan incited a crowd, leading to violence against police and property. Should the police respond with flowers in such a situation? Absolutely not; the law must take its course. Justice is not about appeasement but about upholding the law without bias towards religion or sect,” he stated.
The minister mentioned that Taufiq Raza Khan addressed a large audience, proclaiming 'I love Mohammad' repeatedly. While there was no issue with this expression, the situation escalated due to subsequent acts of vandalism.
“Shops owned by other communities were vandalized, and stones were thrown at both police officers and civilians. Should we sprinkle flowers on those throwing stones?” he questioned.
“Consider this: if they hurl stones and the police respond with flowers, how will order be maintained? This is about justice, not appeasement. The law applies to those who break it, irrespective of their religion,” he reiterated.
In response to Akhilesh Yadav's claims of a 'murder of democracy,' Dharampal Singh asserted that the BJP government operates with complete transparency and is guided by ethical principles.
