Guwahati, April 2 (NationPress) The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has officially rolled out its "People’s Manifesto" for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) on Thursday, emphasizing the complete execution of the Bodo Peace Accord and a vision for inclusive growth as pivotal elements of its forthcoming Assam Assembly campaign.

Under the guidance of party president and BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, this manifesto presents a comprehensive governance strategy focused on peace, safeguarding identity, and economic development.

The party commits to establishing structured peace committees, ensuring land rights protection, and implementing welfare initiatives tailored for various communities in the BTR.

Centering the manifesto around concepts like "Mother, Land, Nation, Education, and Peace," the UPPL aims to position itself as a stabilizing force while driving regional growth.

It highlights the importance of preserving the cultural and linguistic identities of more than two dozen ethnic groups in BTR, along with creating job opportunities and educational reforms for the youth.

On the economic side, the manifesto details ambitious plans for infrastructure development, including improved road networks in thousands of villages, skill development centers, and significant investment initiatives aimed at boosting employment.

Welfare commitments such as financial support for families, scholarships for students, and targeted programs for women are also key features of this document.

This manifesto emerges at a crucial political juncture for UPPL, which has recently distanced itself from the BJP-led NDA due to disagreements over seat-sharing arrangements ahead of the April 9 elections, indicating a more self-reliant electoral approach.

Having established itself as a major regional player in Assam politics following its impressive performance in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) under Pramod Boro’s leadership, UPPL has made significant legislative gains in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, winning crucial seats like Kokrajhar East and Sidli, thereby solidifying its presence in BTR.

Since then, the party has broadened its organizational outreach and refined its identity as a political entity focused on BTR, advocating for peace and development post the landmark Bodo Accord.

While UPPL was initially part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), it is now contesting the elections independently. Recently, UPPL chief Pramod Boro was elected to the Rajya Sabha with the backing of the BJP.

As the assembly elections draw near, the UPPL’s manifesto seeks to merge its core regional priorities with wider governance commitments, positioning itself as both a guardian of Bodo aspirations and a significant player in Assam’s changing political scene.
