New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) The recent invitation from the United States to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has sparked significant backlash in India, with the Congress party labeling it a serious diplomatic and strategic setback for the nation.
In a post on X on Thursday, Congress communication head Jairam Ramesh stated, “It is reported that Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir has been invited to attend an event in Washington, D.C., commemorating US Army Day on June 14. This represents another major diplomatic defeat for India.”
Ramesh pointed out Munir's controversial past, mentioning, “This is the same individual who used provocative and inciteful language just before the Pahalgam terrorist incident. The question arises – what are America’s true intentions?”
He also noted recent comments from the head of the US Central Command, who referred to Pakistan as a “great partner” in combating terrorism.
“This development coincides with the Modi government’s insistence that Operation Sindoor is still in progress. In this context, the invitation to Pakistan's Army Chief to attend an important US military event is definitely a cause for significant concern,” he remarked.
Moreover, Ramesh accused the Trump administration of making statements that imply the US is equating India and Pakistan within its strategy. “Such positioning weakens India's diplomatic standing,” he asserted.
He questioned the government's silence, stating, “While the Prime Minister is welcoming back delegations that have informed the world, including the US, about Pakistan’s role in fostering cross-border terrorism, such actions from Washington only exacerbate India’s precarious situation.”
Ramesh called for urgent political unity, saying, “The Prime Minister must now put aside his obstinacy and ego, and summon an all-party meeting as well as a special session of Parliament. The nation must unite and formulate a cohesive diplomatic strategy.”
“Decades of diplomatic achievements cannot be easily undermined,” Ramesh concluded.
