Dehradun, March 20 (NationPress) The cabinet of Uttarakhand, led by Pushkar Singh Dhami, underwent an expansion on Friday, incorporating five new MLAs as ministers, showcasing a blend of experienced and youthful leaders.

The oath of office for the newly appointed ministers was administered by Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh.

The newly elevated cabinet ministers include Mandan Kaushik (Haridwar), Khajan Dass (Dehradun), Pradeep Batra (Roorkee), Ram Singh Kaira (Bhimtal), and Bharat Singh Chaudhary (Rudraprayag).

Madan Kaushik

Madan Kaushik is a distinguished party veteran and leader with extensive public service experience. He has held various significant roles within the party, including serving as the former president of the Uttarakhand BJP and is currently a member of the National Executive Council. Previously, he was also a cabinet minister in the Uttarakhand government.

His political journey began in student politics, leading him through the political landscape to eventually become a cabinet minister in Uttarakhand.

Starting his political involvement in 1985 as a college president, he was appointed BJP District General Secretary in 2000. Two years later, he contested from the Haridwar constituency, marking his debut in the Legislative Assembly with a significant victory. He has since won the Haridwar seat in four consecutive elections.

Madan Kaushik boasts an impressive electoral record, securing victories in 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022.

After his induction as a cabinet minister, he stated, “I am a party worker. I will fulfill every responsibility assigned to me. I have always aimed to meet the expectations of the party and the government.”

He also highlighted the government's ambitious plans to host a grand Kumbh Mela in the state.

Khajan Dass

Khajan Dass, who represents the Rajpur Road constituency in Dehradun, is recognized for his principled approach to politics and has gained a reputation for being forthright, even regarding matters within his own BJP government.

Emerging from the Scheduled Caste community, Dass has become a prominent figure advocating for the community and is known for his dedication to public service. He recently drew attention when he publicly criticized his government for the slow progress of the ‘Dehradun as Smart City’ initiative.

Pradeep Batra

Pradeep Batra, the legislator from Roorkee, is making his debut in the Dhami cabinet. A three-time legislator, he won twice on a Congress ticket in 2012 and 2017, and once as a BJP candidate in 2022.

After switching allegiances from Congress in 2022, Pradeep Batra was elected on the BJP ticket from the same constituency. This marks his first term in the Council of Ministers.

Hailing from Uttarakhand, Batra completed his education at Roorkee Degree College and is involved in a family-owned business that includes hotels and various commercial enterprises.

The other two ministers, Ram Singh Kaira from Bhimtal and Bharat Singh Chaudhary from Rudraprayag, are also beginning their journeys as cabinet ministers in the Dhami administration.

Kaira first secured the Bhimtal seat in 2017 as an Independent and later joined the BJP in October 2021.

The expansion of the Dhami cabinet, considered overdue, is viewed as a strategic move by the ruling party in preparation for the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections. Political analysts perceive this as an effort to address crucial regional and caste dynamics within the state's electoral framework.
