Thiruvananthapuram, March 14 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister of State (MoS), V. Muraleedharan, on Friday, fiercely criticized Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, asserting that he is merely a person who was ''by default'' born as a descendant of Mahatma Gandhi and has been attempting to ''monetise'' his illustrious ancestor's name.
The former Union Minister's remarks came after Kerala Police initiated action against five BJP/RSS supporters for obstructing Tushar Gandhi during his attendance at an event in the suburbs of Thiruvananthapuram earlier this week.
''Those who criticize others will also face criticism, and there is no need for intolerance,'' Muraleedharan commented. ''If Tushar can criticize the BJP/RSS, then the reverse is also valid. The protest was conducted democratically. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should not presume that registering a case can intimidate us.''
''Tushar has long been 'monetising' Mahatma Gandhi through an advertisement deal with an American company. Just because one is born into the Mahatma's family does not make them a Mahatma,'' he added.
''Currently, Tushar is pursuing a Congress party ticket. We heard the Leader of the Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, express that it is highly regrettable for someone of Gandhi's lineage to be treated poorly. If this is true, then the Congress party is guilty of the same by denying him a ticket,'' stated the former MoS.
Criticizing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who condemned the BJP/RSS protests against Tushar Gandhi, Muraleedharan stated, ''It's ironic that someone like Vijayan, who lacks any connection to Gandhism, is attempting to teach us about it.''
Tushar Gandhi provoked the ire of BJP/RSS activists when he accused the Sangh Parivar of disseminating a ''cancer'' that has ravaged the nation's essence.
Meanwhile, while in Kerala, Tushar Gandhi responded to the BJP/RSS at an event near Kochi, asserting that he does not intend to apologize for his statements.
''This incident has only strengthened my resolve to continue exposing the traitors and the descendants of my great grandfather's murderers, who target Mahatma Gandhi's statue with bullets, as they are accustomed to doing,'' he stated.
Notably, LoP Satheesan reacted strongly, declaring that the Congress party would continue to support Tushar Gandhi's presence in Kerala.
