Jaipur, Nov 16 (NationPress) The Rajasthan government has made a significant announcement with the appointment of V. Srinivas as its new Chief Secretary, following the issuance of official orders on Sunday.
His return to the state cadre comes right after the Central government ended his deputation, paving the way for him to take on this premier bureaucratic role.
Srinivas, who belongs to the 1989 IAS batch, is among the most senior officers in the Rajasthan cadre and was a frontrunner for this position.
This appointment signifies a notable shift within the state’s administrative structure, as he brings over three decades of experience, including substantial service at both national and international levels.
Speculation about his role intensified after he had a meeting with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma in Delhi earlier this week. Following this discussion, the state formally requested his repatriation from the Centre. Prior to this, Srinivas was serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, and the Centre acceded to the state's request.
Having spent more than 20 years on central deputation, Srinivas has held numerous high-ranking positions across various ministries. He was Secretary of the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare and also oversaw the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). His previous roles include significant assignments in the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Textiles, and the Ministry of Culture. Notably, his tenure as Deputy Director at AIIMS, Delhi, saw him play a crucial role in launching the Digital-AIIMS project, a vital step towards modernizing healthcare.
On the international front, he served as an Advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, D.C., focusing on governance and administrative reforms.
Recently, Srinivas chaired the nomination meeting for the National Awards for e-Governance 2026, marking one of his final duties in Delhi before returning to his home state.
With his appointment now confirmed, he is expected to assume his responsibilities at the Secretariat without delay. His arrival is anticipated as a significant administrative enhancement, with the government looking forward to his expertise in governance reforms and digital administration to propel key initiatives throughout Rajasthan.
