Bhopal, April 27 (NationPress) In a devastating incident in Mandsaur district, a van transporting thirteen devotees fell into an open well on Sunday near Budha-Takarwat crossing close to Kachariya Chowpati village, under the Narayangarh police station in Madhya Pradesh.
The catastrophic event has resulted in the loss of 11 lives, while four others, including two young children, have suffered serious injuries.
According to the police, the vehicle lost its balance after colliding with a motorcycle, eventually plunging into a well that is around 15 feet deep.
Manohar Singh, a local resident who attempted to save the victims, tragically lost his life due to toxic gas from the LPG-powered van, as reported by the police.
Anil Raghuvanshi, the officer in charge of Narayangarh police station, informed IANS, “Currently, 11 individuals have been confirmed deceased in this disaster, including the rescuer Manohar Singh and the biker Gobar Singh, who was also hit by the van. The search operation continues.”
Manohar Singh was from Sanjit village, while Gobar Singh hailed from Sitamau in the Mandsaur district.
Police sources mentioned that reliance on earthmoving machinery and cranes after the rescuer's death resulted in many passengers being suffocated inside the van.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who visited the scene, posted on his X account: “Upon receiving news of the tragic event involving a four-wheeler falling into a well in Kachariya Chowpati village of Malhargarh assembly constituency in Mandsaur district, I promptly inspected the site and directed the District Collector and Superintendent of Police to accelerate the rescue operation.”
Later speaking to the media, he emphasized the serious nature of the injuries but assured that prompt medical care had been provided.
Devda expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to extend all possible support to the families.
Among the survivors were Maya Keer (26) and two children aged three and twelve, who were admitted to Mandsaur District Hospital. Reports indicate that the van was en route from Unhel in Ujjain district to Antri Mata Temple in Neemuch district when it fell into the well, according to police sources.
