Chennai, March 17 (NationPress) VCK leader and Member of Parliament Thol Thirumavalavan has called upon the youth of Tamil Nadu to resist the allure of cinema and not to blindly follow film stars who venture into politics. In a statement released on Monday, the Dalit leader highlighted that youth who are grounded in ideology and inspired by social reformers like Thanthai Periyar, B.R. Ambedkar, and Karl Marx should not be influenced by actors-turned-politicians.
His comments were made amid growing speculation that Tamil film icon Vijay and his newly established political party, TVK, might affect VCK's support among the electorate.
In response to these concerns, Thirumavalavan recalled similar media narratives during the political entries of other actors such as Vijayakanth and Kamal Haasan. He strongly asserted that VCK has remained steadfast in its mission and has established a unique position within Tamil Nadu's political arena.
“No cinema glamour can diminish the strength of our ideologically motivated members,” he stated.
“When Vijayakanth launched his party, there was conjecture regarding its influence on VCK. A similar situation arose with Kamal Haasan. However, history has illustrated that VCK remains resilient, which is why the Election Commission of India has acknowledged our party,” he remarked.
Thirumavalavan also reaffirmed VCK’s dedication to its alliance with the ruling DMK, dismissing any notion of changing sides for political advantages.
“We will strive to secure more seats in the 2026 elections, but we will not alter alliances merely for that purpose. There is no possibility of leaving the DMK alliance,” he emphasized.
VCK is recognized as the only political party in Tamil Nadu with a solid foundation among Dalit communities. The party successfully won four of the six seats it contested in the 2021 Assembly elections and secured both the Chidambaram and Villupuram constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Thol Thirumavalavan and D. Ravikumar currently serve as the party’s sitting MPs.
Through this statement, Thirumavalavan has effectively quelled rumors regarding VCK's potential involvement in an opposition-led grand alliance with the AIADMK, reaffirming his party’s political position.
