Vice-Chairperson of Haryana Women Commission and Driver Arrested for Rs 1 Lakh Bribe

Chandigarh, Dec 15 (NationPress) On Saturday evening, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team from Jind detained Sonia Aggarwal, the vice-chairperson of the Haryana State Women Commission. Her personal assistant and driver, Kulbir, was apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to mediate a marital dispute between a couple, according to an official report.
The operation was conducted under the oversight of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamaljeet Singh. The team successfully seized Rs 1 lakh from the driver.
Confirming the enforcement action, the Haryana ACB posted on social media platform X, stating: "The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau today apprehended Sonia Agarwal, Vice-President of the Haryana Women Commission, and her driver Kulbir for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000. The ACB team caught Kulbir red-handed while he was in the process of taking the bribe. Investigations are ongoing in this matter. @cmohry #Corruption #vigilance."
According to official sources, Anil, a Junior Basic Teacher from Julana in Jind district, and his wife, who works in the Haryana Police and is stationed at Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district, had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute.
His wife lodged a complaint with the Haryana State Women Commission, leading to a summons for Anil to appear for an inquiry. They were present before Sonia Aggarwal during the hearing on December 12.
Subsequently, Anil was contacted by Aggarwal's PA, who allegedly solicited Rs 1 lakh for arranging a settlement.
As per sources, Anil reached out to the ACB, prompting the filing of a case under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The ACB operatives executed a sting operation and apprehended Kulbir while he was receiving money from the complainant near a park in Hisar on Saturday.
At the same time, another team conducted a search at Sonia Aggarwal's residence located in Pratap Colony in Kharkhoda, but she was not home. The team contacted her and proceeded to search the premises in the presence of her parents.
The team subsequently took her to the women's police station in Sonepat for further questioning.
The DSP confirmed that Sonia Aggarwal has been arrested.
