Additionally, her driver was taken into custody alongside her.
This development has sparked considerable unrest within the police department.
As per an official report, Putul Kumari was caught in the act while receiving the bribe from Rajiv Ranjan, a local resident from Chhatauna village within the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station, related to an assault case.
Rajiv Ranjan had submitted a formal complaint to the Vigilance Unit, alleging that the SHO had requested a bribe of Rs 20,000 in order to advance his case.
In response to the complaint, the vigilance team executed a sting operation and arrested both the SHO and her driver during the act of accepting the bribe.
Vigilance DSP Rajesh Kumar verified the arrests, confirming that an in-depth investigation is ongoing, and appropriate legal measures will ensue.
This operation follows the recent suspension of ASI Mrityunjay Kumar, also in Samastipur, highlighting the administration's unwavering commitment to combatting corruption within the police force.
The incident has conveyed a strong message throughout the district about the zero tolerance policy towards corruption, even among law enforcement personnel.
Earlier, on March 19, the State Vigilance Unit (SVU) detained a Kanoongo (revenue officer) on corruption charges in Bihar’s Supaul district.
The accused, Vikas Kumar, was caught red-handed receiving Rs 5,000 from the complainant, local resident Anupam Kumar.
The SVU set the trap in Gudiya Panchayat under the Jadia police station jurisdiction on a Wednesday and subsequently arrested him. An FIR has been lodged at the Vigilance Police Station in Patna.
Anupam Kumar reported in his FIR that three years prior, issues arose during a land survey regarding the measurement of his father’s purchased land, and a bribe was being demanded to resolve the matter.
