Patna, Feb 20 (NationPress) The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar has taken another significant step in the fight against corruption in the state.

On Friday, SVU agents apprehended Anita Kumari, the District Program Officer (DPO-ICDS) stationed in Thakurganj block of Kishanganj, caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

According to authorities, the DPO had purportedly demanded a substantial sum of money under the threat of disciplinary measures.

The complainant, Nagendra Kumar, whose father is Rajdev Sah and who resides in Jagdishpur Tiyari under the jurisdiction of Noorsarai police station in Nalanda, filed a formal complaint with the SVU office in Patna.

Following this, the vigilance unit verified the claims and set up a sting operation.

During the operation, Anita Kumari was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 as the bribe.

The complainant alleged that the DPO threatened him with suspension by preparing a charge sheet and demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh to avoid this action.

After negotiations, the amount was settled at Rs 50,000, leading the SVU team to arrest the officer.

The SVU has registered Case No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The detained officer will appear before the Vigilance Court in Patna on Saturday.

Legal proceedings are currently ongoing.

On Thursday, the SVU took decisive action against corruption by arresting Junior Engineer Aman Kumar, assigned to Sahibganj in Muzaffarpur district, while he was allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 9,000.

During a pre-arranged operation, the complainant handed over Rs 9,000 as the first installment of the demanded bribe to the accused engineer.

Subsequently, the SVU team apprehended Aman Kumar on-site.

On February 17, the SVU arrested the District Agriculture Officer and his driver while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The vigilance unit arrested Himanshu Kumar, the in-charge District Agriculture Officer of Muzaffarpur, along with his driver, Rambabu Rai.
