Vijayamma Accuses Jagan of Family Asset Injustice
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amaravati, March 20 (NationPress) Y. S. Vijayalakshmi, the wife of the late former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has made it clear that a formal division of family assets has not occurred. She accused her son, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, of being unjust to his sister, Y.S. Sharmila, and her children regarding asset distribution.
In light of the ongoing family asset dispute at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Vijayalakshmi, affectionately known as Vijayamma, issued a notarized statement on Friday.
She expressed hope that Jagan Mohan Reddy would finally act fairly towards his sister and her children.
Addressing claims from YSR Congress Party leaders that a settlement regarding family assets had been reached, Vijayamma labeled those assertions as misleading and inaccurate.
The former Chief Minister and president of YSR Congress, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his sister Sharmila, who leads the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh, over the division of the family's assets.
Vijayamma clarified that all properties owned by the family until 2009 are considered shared family assets, which remain undivided even after YSR's passing.
She explained that an MoU was created only as a guideline for potential future asset distribution, emphasizing that it was never registered or legally enforced.
Vijayamma asserted that YSR intended to equitably distribute the assets among his grandchildren. She believes that properties listed in the MoU favoring Sharmila are rightfully hers, even if they fall short of her rightful share.
She mentioned that assets such as Saraswati Cement and land in Yelahanka belong to Sharmila, emphasizing that the funds reportedly allocated to her are merely dividends, not a share of the genuine assets.
In response to Vijayamma’s statements, YSRCP spokesperson Rachamallu Shivaprasad Reddy criticized her remarks about Jagan Mohan Reddy, labeling them as unfair and hurtful.
He questioned why she did not address the negative comments directed at her son and seemed to endorse the narrative against him.
He challenged the implication that injustice was done to Sharmila and her family, asking if it was right to tarnish Jagan’s reputation while defending her.
Shivaprasad claimed that property distribution occurred before YSR's death in 2009 and refuted the accusations, asserting that Jagan had already given more than his fair share to his sister out of love. He pointed out that an MoU was signed after Jagan became Chief Minister in 2019 but was later retracted due to Sharmila’s actions and subsequent developments, including legal issues. He suggested that such disputes should be resolved privately or through legal channels rather than through public discourse.
