Kadapa (Andhra Pradesh), July 8 (NationPress) Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and President of the YSR Congress Party, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with the state Congress chief Y.S. Sharmila, honored their late father and former chief minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on what would have been his 76th birthday.
In the company of his mother Y.S. Vijayamma, wife Y.S. Bharati, and other family members, Jagan Mohan Reddy placed a wreath at the final resting place of the late leader at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya, located in the YSR Kadapa District.
They engaged in special prayers for the occasion, taking a moment of silence to reflect.
Members of the YSR Congress, including MPs, MLAs, and MLCs, also offered their respects to YSR, as he was fondly known.
Sharmila, YSR's daughter and the state Congress President, also visited his grave separately to pay her respects. Vijayamma was present during this solemn event.
To commemorate the day, Sharmila and Vijayamma cut a cake.
“Miss You Dad,” Jagan Mohan Reddy shared on X, accompanied by photos taken at YSR’s grave.
Since Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister in 2019, there have been apparent differences between him and Sharmila, leading them to attend YSR’s birth and death anniversary events separately.
Last year's Assembly and Lok Sabha elections were a considerable setback for the YSR Congress Party.
Meanwhile, Sharmila expressed her heartfelt tributes to her father through her social media posts on X. “Having served as CM twice in united Andhra Pradesh, he played a crucial role not only in the state but also in elevating the Congress to power at the national level. Through his effective governance and welfare programs, he won the hearts of millions, leaving a lasting legacy through initiatives like 'Arogyasri', fee reimbursement, and 'Jala Yagnam',” she wrote.
The President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee urged the Telangana government to create a memorial for YSR in Hyderabad. She noted that the aspiration of YSR's supporters for a memorial in Hyderabad has yet to be realized. She expressed hope that under the Congress leadership in Telangana, the Chief Minister would positively respond to the establishment of the YSR memorial.
Sharmila mentioned that she has also reached out to AICC senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi regarding this matter.
In another post, Sharmila described YSR as the embodiment of Telugu pride and a remarkable leader known for his compassion.
She highlighted YSR's relentless dedication to public welfare and noted that his governance has set a standard for future generations.
“As a farmer’s son who believed that the prosperity of the state is linked to the happiness of farmers, he served them until his last breath. By implementing impactful schemes, he secured a permanent place in the hearts of the people. A towering figure who constructed numerous projects, a savior for the impoverished, and a friend to farmers who transformed agriculture into a celebration,” she concluded.
