Vijay officially inaugurated TVK on February 2, 2024, following years of speculation surrounding his political ambitions.

Since its establishment, TVK has garnered attention for Vijay's political remarks, which have ignited discussions among his supporters and political analysts due to perceived inconsistencies on certain matters.

Vijay's political credibility has been on the rise since his fan club, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), secured 115 out of the 169 seats it contested in the 2021 Tamil Nadu local body elections. This achievement has distinguished TVK from other emerging political entities, such as Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), which failed to gain any seats.
