Chennai, April 7 (NationPress) The actor-turned-politician Vijay, head of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has achieved approval for his nomination papers from both the Perambur constituency in Chennai and the Tiruchirappalli East constituency for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This follows the submission of amended affidavits that addressed earlier inconsistencies.

Vijay initially filed his nomination for Perambur at Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi on March 30, and subsequently submitted documents for Tiruchirappalli East on April 2.

However, a review of his affidavits uncovered notable discrepancies, which quickly became a topic of considerable discussion in political and social spheres.

In his Tiruchirappalli East nomination, Vijay disclosed two criminal cases against him. Conversely, the affidavit submitted for Perambur indicated that there were no pending criminal cases.

Moreover, his age was reported differently across the two submissions—52 years for Perambur and 51 years for Tiruchirappalli East—prompting concerns regarding the validity of the information presented.

The inconsistencies ignited a flurry of conversation on social media, with some analysts warning that the nomination for Perambur could be rejected if amendments weren't made swiftly.

In response, Vijay filed a revised affidavit for the Perambur constituency on April 4. This updated document reconciled the disclosures with those made in the Tiruchirappalli East filing, including the criminal case details.

One case is associated with a protest incident in Kolathur, where a large assembly allegedly caused public disturbances, leading to police action at Peravallur station. The other case relates to a security-related altercation in Madurai on August 21 of the previous year, where injuries occurred during a public event, resulting in a formal complaint.

The revised affidavit also corrected his age to 51 years in the Perambur submission.

The updated documents were presented to the Returning Officer by party representatives, including legal advisors.

Election officials confirmed that since the errors were rectified within the allowed timeframe, there were no grounds for rejection.

Despite objections raised by the DMK and some independent candidates during the review, Vijay’s nominations from both constituencies were ultimately accepted.

Meanwhile, the nominations of other significant leaders, including Chief Minister M. K. Stalin from Kolathur, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni, and BJP leader Nainar Nagendran from Sattur, were also approved, along with numerous other notable candidates across the state.
